About: unofficial bio (my why)
From pottery to jewelry and sketching floorplans, as a child I was always creating. Senior year I found the perfect “blow-off” class as I had all my credits accounted for. Little did I know the graphic design class would change the trajectory of my life forever. My teacher saw something in me I had yet to discover and entered my work into a local competition, from there I went to state-wide, and then nationals.
Always the type to “take a leap”, when that teacher suggested I go to art college, I jumped. I moved to the lovely town of Grand Rapids, MI to attend the small yet highly regarded Kendall College of Art and Design.
My senior year there, I was awarded a coveted spot as an intern at a local publishing and design company and moved my way up to creative director over time.
When the company was acquired by InnerWorkings, Inc., a prestigious marketing agency in Chicago, I was thrilled to join the design team. Until I realized they did not have one.
Once again I took a leap and pitched the CEO directly – I believed they needed a design department and was determined to make it happen.
Without knowing me, yet fully trusting me, he gave me the blessing – but no financial support. It was like being given the keys to Disney World yet having no power to “turn it on”.
I bootstrapped, made connections (and friends with the sales reps) and grew it into a team of over 40 people within 3 years.
With over 15 years of service with brands like FedEx, Stoli Vodka and Burts Bees, I was at the top of my game career-wise. However, while traveling for my corporate job as a creative director, I found myself away from my then-young daughter and asking myself, “how did I get here??”
While I am forever grateful for the experience and the amazing brands I helped to launch and grow, I realized it was time to put my knowledge to work for myself and put my family first.
I began teaching at my alma mater, Kendall College of Art and Design in the design department, and serving clients in the space and virtual reality industries. I was about to join a company as a partner when I suddenly had a life-threatening kidney issue.
Lying in a hospital bed, I was forced to face the truth. I was CALLED to do this work.
After digging deep and going back to my roots, my passion for making the planet a better place bubbled up and I realized by helping conscious, highly-motivated entrepreneurs, I can BE part of the change in the world.
Seeing entrepreneurs who had done the DIY and bootstrapped branding that are INCREDIBLE and smart but didn’t have that “it factor” in their brand, I knew I could help.
My goal is to change the world for the better by helping rock star business owners fully OWN their awesome and make them look the part online.
I am obsessed with the process of creation, re-envisioning and expanding. To make amazing people and businesses stand out among the noise online and DISRUPT their niche.
I LOVE this work and I LOVE my clients.
In my personal life, I am first and foremost a child of God, wife to an amazing husband and mother of two strong girls. I am grateful every day to have the freedom of entreprenuership.
